Agents of Change for Inclusive Conflict Transformation
Michael Daxner is a Senior Associate to the Berghof Foundation. In this role, he undertakes independent research and provides conceptual advice to our research activities. He is also closely affiliated to our project on Forms of Informal Governance in North and North-East Afghanistan (FU Berlin, SFB 700). His research interests focus on cultures of intervention and cultural policies, civil/military interaction and governance in Afghanistan and higher education policy.
Michael has held prominent posts as a political and academic consultant, for example for UNMIK in Kosovo and on behalf of the German Federal Foreign Office in Afghanistan. From 1986 to 1998, he presided over the University of Oldenburg, Germany. He is a member of the Centre for Conflict Studies and of the University Council at Marburg University. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by Novosibirsk State University, Russia, in 1995.
