The Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Angela Merkel, visited the exhibit of “Peace Counts: Success Stories from Peacebuilders Worldwide” in the context of her attendance at the protestant Kirchentag in May 2013. The Chancellor was particularly interested in Peace Counts’ unique approach to peacebuilding.

Established in 1971 by Professor Dr Georg Zundel as a philanthropic endeavour to support peace and conflict research, the Berghof Foundation today has become a globally operating hub for conflict transformation research, peace education and for hands-on support in conflict transformation.Together with many partners and friends from near and far the Berghof Foundation celebrated the anniversary with a festive event on 15 November 2012.

The group that travelled to Kochi in southern India to participate in the Peace Counts Training of Trainers programme proved to be as diverse as India itself: Hindus, Muslims and Christians from five states, and each with their own local language. A young law student from Kerala sat next to a social worker from a slum in Tamil Nadu. But one thing binds them together: their commitment to their role as multipliers and representatives of civil society organisations, striving towards a peaceful future for their country.

With great sadness we announce that our dear friend and member of the Advisory Board of Berghof Peace Support, Dekha Ibrahim Abdi, has died following severe injuries sustained in a car accident in Kenya, in which her husband and their driver were immediately killed. Our heartfelt condolences go to the couple’s four children, and the many colleagues who are left behind.
