40 Years of Engagement in Peacebuilding

Established during the height of the Cold War by Professor Dr Georg Zundel, the Berghof Foundation can look back at a history of success. Over the past forty years peacebuilding has become firmly rooted in research, practice and education in Germany. By supporting hundreds of projects and helping to establish several institutions, the Foundation has become a defining part of that history.

After 40 years of engagement in peacebuilding, the Berghof Foundation is still looking ahead. By integrating more closely our operational competencies in research, practice and education, complemented by targeted strategic grant-making, we believe we can achieve the synergies and potentials required to rise to the challenges of the future. For the Berghof Foundation, therefore, 2012 is not only a year of taking stock and reflecting critically on the past, but also of working on and celebrating the continuous improvement in our work that we strive for.
