CORE Mid-term Conference in Varanasi, India
On behalf of the Berghof Foundation, Anna Bernhard and Janel B. Galvanek took part in the Mid-Term Conference for the CORE project (Cultures of Governance and Conflict Resolution in Europe and India) on 18-19 March in Varanasi, India. The Conference brought together representatives from all 10 partner institutions from Europe and India and was hosted by the Malaviya Centre for Peace Research at Banaras Hindu University. The first day was devoted to internal discussions and presentations of the field work currently being conducted. The Berghof representatives led a discussion on the thematic analysis of field work findings, which will be developed into two reports assessing governance initiatives and their conflict resolution potential to be published at the end of 2012. On the second day, civil society leaders, academics, and members of the EU delegation in India were asked to participate in an open conference on the role of governance in conflict resolution.
The EU-funded CORE project aims at providing a substantial theory-related and empirical assessment of the impact of governance agendas on local conflict dynamics, particularly within conflicts in which identity mobilisation is prominent.
