Vita:Hans Joachim Giessmann is one of the Executive Directors of the Berghof Foundation. Between 2008 and 2011 he was the Director of Berghof Conflict Research. Before coming to Berghof in 2008 he was the deputy director of the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg, where he still has an affiliation as a Professor and is member of the social science faculty. He is also on the Board of Directors for the European Master Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation. Since 2009 he is member of the Global Agenda Council on “Terrorism” at the World Economic Forum and of the European Expert Network on Terrorism (EENeT). Also he is a member of the Advisory Board for Civilian Crisis Prevention at the German Federal Foreign Office. He is co-editor of the research quarterlies “Security and Peace” (Nomos) and “Connections” (NATO Partnership for Peace Consortium). As an experienced author has published, edited or co-edited more than 20 books and numerous articles, translated into more than a dozen languages. Hans J. Giessmann graduated from the Humboldt-University in Berlin and holds doctorates in both philosophy and political science.
