Vita:Hans J. Giessmann is one of the Executive Directors of the Berghof Foundation and currently also Director of its conflict research department. Between 2008 and 2011 he was the Director of Berghof Conflict Research. Before coming to Berghof in 2008 he was the deputy director of the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg, where he still has an affiliation as a Professor and member of the social science faculty. Hans J. Giessmann chairs the Global Agenda Council on “Terrorism” at the World Economic Forum and is a member of the Advisory Board for Civilian Crisis Prevention at the German Federal Foreign Office. He has published, edited or co-edited more than 20 books and numerous articles, translated into more than a dozen languages. He graduated from the Humboldt-University in Berlin and holds doctorates in both philosophy and political science.
