The second Berghof Grantees Conference focused on the topic of Youth as change-makers: From conflict actors to peacebuilders. The conference created a space of inspiration and brainstorming amongst the Berghof Foundation, its grantees and partners and provided a platform for exchange on current topics in the field of conflict transformation.
From child soldiers and urban criminal gangs to civil resistance activists in the Arab Spring, youth have become primary drivers of violent and nonviolent conflicts alike. Due to their socio-political grassroots engagement for peace, human security or community development, others are at the forefront of peacebuilding efforts. Five projects from Honduras, Indonesia, Macedonia, Nepal and Yemen were presented. They all focus on the roles and nonviolent strategies of young people to become actively engaged as change-makers and peacebuilders.
