Invitation: “National Dialogue Handbook” - Launch on 27 Feb 2017

24.01.2017

Spaces are still available for the event launching the “National Dialogue Handbook. A Guide for Practitioners”, which will take place on 27 February at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. Filling a gap in the current literature and tracing the fast developments in the practice of National Dialogues and National Dialogue support, this resource compiles strategic advice and best practice recommendations to inform and further develop such processes. The Handbook is based on comparative lessons learned and best practices from past and ongoing National Dialogue processes in, among others, Guatemala, Mali, Nepal, Lebanon, Tunisia and Sudan. It addresses conflict stakeholders, civil society, peacebuilding practitioners, (inter)national development donors and policy-makers. It aims to provide hands-on practical and policy advice, aiding actors in preparing, designing, supporting and implementing National Dialogue processes.

The National Dialogue Handbook forms the culmination of an intensive two-year project by the Berghof Foundation, in cooperation with swisspeace, and supported by the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

The launch event brings together the wide range of actors interested in National Dialogues and will provide an opportunity to reflect on current best practice in the field. Particular attention will go to dilemmas, challenges, needs and the main critical questions conflict stakeholders are faced with in the different phases of emerging National Dialogues.
