Dr Martina Fischer followed an invitation of the Centre for Nonviolent Action (Sarajevo), the Global Leadership Academy (GIZ) and Stiftung Aufarbeitung and moderated a workshop at the conference „Memory, Justice & Reconciliation” (10-12 June 2015) in Sarajevo.
The conference aimed at exchange between practitioners and scholars advocating inclusive cultures of remembrance and engaging in processes of dealing with the past. Participants from Asia, Africa, America and Europe discussed their experiences with experts from Europe esp. activists from the Balkans. The dilemmas and obstacles, that dealing with the past processes are facing in Bosnia-Herzegovina 20 years after the end of the war, have also been illustrated. The group visited the memorial site at Srebrenica–Potočari that was established to pay respect to the more than 8,000 men and youth murdered in July 1995. Furthermore, war veterans from different sides, who had fought each other during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, reported on activities for reconciliation in local communities.
