“Living Histories” exhibition opens in Abkhazia


On Thursday, October 23rd, the first exhibition on „Living Histories“ was opened in Sukhum/i Abkhazia. The event was a common effort of the Berghof Foundation and “World without Violence”.

The exhibition shows individual memories of war and reconciliation in Abkhazia, Georgia, South Ossetia and Nagorny Karabakh. It is a result of our work on history, memory and identity, in the framework of the Berghof project “From Trialogue to sustainable Dialogue”, financed by the German Foreign Office. 

In her speech at the opening, vice-speaker of the Abkhaz parliament Emma Gamisonia pointed out, that there is a great need in working on questions of History and memory in Abkhazia, today.

The exhibition is especiallay visited by groups of school and university students. Until the end of 2014 it will be shown in different places throughout Abkhazia and also in Georgia and South Ossetia.
