Frans Schram joined the Berghof Foundation in September 2016: He is a Dialogue Facilitator in the  Mediation & Dialogue Support programme, currently working with a number of projects on peace mediation and dialogue support in various countries. He is furthermore delivering negotiation capacity and mediation training.

Before joining Berghof, Frans was heading the Brussels office of the “Institute for Research and Education on Negotiation” (ESSEC IRENE, Paris) and worked as a senior trainer delivering seminars in (international) negotiation skills for high-ranking officials from the European Commission and the EEAS for almost 5 years. For EU Delegations he conducted courses on Policy Dialogue in development cooperation in over 15 countries worldwide. He furthermore teaches at the École Nationale d’Administration (ENA), the French, Belgian and German Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the École Militaire in Paris, the College of Europe in Bruges and a number of multinational companies in the private sector.

From 2009 to 2012, Frans was a training and research fellow at the Netherlands Institute for International Relations ‘Clingendael’ in The Hague. There, he coordinated diplomatic training programmes for groups of diplomats stemming from over 30 different countries and lectured on international and EU negotiations, foreign policy-making and the nexus between conflict and natural resources. He was also coordinator of the prestigious “Course on International Relations” (former Dutch ‘klasje’). Before that, he worked for a number of years in Brussels, including for the European Commission’s External Relations directorate, and for the Dutch embassy in Colombia.

He holds a MA in Law from the University of Maastricht and acquired further specialisations in European and International Law. He also studied at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in Spain and the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa and speaks fluent Dutch, English, Spanish, French, German and Afrikaa
