The third Berghof Grantees Conference focused on the topic of National Dialogues in Conflict Transformation. The conference created a space for exchange among Berghof Foundation staff, its grantees and members of the Board of Trustees.
As externally mediated peace processes are increasingly criticised by national actors as partisan and illegitimate, national dialogue processes have been suggested as a useful approach to promote national consensus and legitimacy. At the conference, the four 2014 Grant for Innovation in Conflict Transformation grantees presented the preliminary results and lessons learned of their projects in Afghanistan, Croatia, Syria and Yemen. All of them focus on exploring how national dialogue processes offer a distinct approach and a means of settlement after war or political crisis.
