Latin America Programme
Urban Reichhold joined Berghof in early 2020 as a Project Manager with the Latin America Programme, working on non-violent conflict transformation in Nicaragua. His areas of thematic expertise include civil resistance, mediation and dialogue in the context of armed conflict and violent social protest.
Before joining Berghof, Urban worked with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Geneva. Previous experience includes several field assignments with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Afghanistan, Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo and Nepal. As an ICRC delegate, Urban engaged with military actors, in particular non-state armed groups, to negotiate access and promote the respect of basic humanitarian principles. As a research fellow with the Global Public Policy Institute in Berlin (2011-2019), he conducted short-term consultancies commissioned by national governments, the UN and the European Commission.
Urban studied sociology and political science at the Humboldt University in Berlin and Sciences Po, Paris. He holds a master’s in development management from the London School of Economics and is currently completing his PhD at the Graduate Institute in Geneva, which explores the link between wartime rebel violence and post-conflict electoral success of ex-rebel parties.
