Julian is currently responsible for the project Strengthening the Ethiopian Transition and Reform Process. Before he was Project Manager for the Horn of Africa project and worked for our project to support reconciliation, dialogue and mediation processes in Somalia.
Prior to re-joining Berghof Foundation in 2017, he worked for a GIZ project in Addis Ababa that advises the African Union in the field of peace and security. Before that Julian was research assistant in different projects at the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) and gained experience as an intern and freelancer at the German Federal Foreign Office and the Berghof Foundation’s Conflict Transformation Research Unit.
Being engaged in the field of “Youth, Peace and Security” (YPS), Julian co-headed Polis180’s Peace Support Programme from 2016 – 2019, during which he contributed as an expert to various policy processes, such the Global Progress Study on YPS. In 2019 he became a member of the OSCE Core Group of Experts on Youth and Security.
Julian holds a MA in International Studies and Peace- and Conflict Studies from Goethe University Frankfurt, TU Darmstadt and Aberystwyth University and a BA in political science and human geography from Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena.
